The award was presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Mrs Julie Spence, OBE QPM, at geo’s headquarters in Hardwick, and was in recognition of the technical and business achievements of the company.

geo has made significant progress in introducing ground-breaking solutions to help consumers control their home energy usage since it was founded in 2006. The Award merited the first of these solutions, the Solo in-home energy monitor.

Firms donate construction materials to hurricane torn Barbuda @IronmngryDirect

IronmongeryDirect, the UK’s largest supplier of ironmongery to the trade, has partnered with supplier TIMco to donate a pallet full of fastenings and fixings which is being sent to hurricane torn Barbuda in the Caribbean.

The pallet, which contains approximately 500,000 woodscrews, roofing screws, concrete screws, nails and masonry fixings, will help the residents of Barbuda rebuild their homes and communities following the devastation brought about by Hurricane Irma and more recently Hurricane Maria.

Rudridge duo complete epic bike ride and raise over £3,200 for Stroke Association @Rudridge

Two employees from the Farnham branch of Rudridge have completed the challenge of a lifetime and raised £3,200 by cycling from Paris to Geneva in memory of a much-missed former colleague.

Paul Duke and Peter Burrell set of from Paris on Monday 4th September and rode through Sens, Semur-en Auxois, Dijon and Lons-le-Saunier, before arriving in Geneva on Thursday 7th September. The route, which covered over 320 miles, involved hairpin bends and punishing climbs, including the notorious 1,323m Col de la Faucille ascent which has regularly featured in the Tour de France. 

Speedy goes back to Wigan roots for 40th birthday celebration @wearespeedy

Leading tools, equipment and plant hire company, Speedy, has celebrated its 40th anniversary in business at its original Wigan depot.

What began as a small store in Wigan has now grown into a multi-million pound, national business.

The company first opened its doors in 1977 in the town and has since grown to become one of the UK’s largest hire providers with a network of over 200 depots across the UK and Ireland.

To mark the milestone, Speedy held a celebration event on Tuesday 12th September with the Mayor and Mayoress of Wigan in attendance along with Speedy’s Chief Executive Russell Down, who unveiled a commemorative plaque.

Reynaers has been shortlisted for the prestigious glass and glazing industry accolade in recognition of the success of its Any Space Transformed campaign.

Judges at the G Awards have shortlisted the leading aluminium systems company in the ‘Promotional Campaign of the Year – Trade’ category. This is the fifth year in a row that Reynaers has been a finalist in what are coined ‘the industry’s Oscars’.

Any Space Transformed is a visually-led and tongue-in-cheek campaign developed by Reynaers’ UK design, PR and social media agency, Mobas. It highlights the transformative effect of aluminium glazing systems, demonstrating how Reynaers offers a solution for any design and performance requirement.

CAMBRIDGE MAN GETS A ‘LIFE-CHANGING’ LIFT FOR THE HOME @StiltzLifts

A 70-year-old man with an extremely rare form of muscular dystrophy has described how he discovered a ‘life-changing’ method of moving between the floors of his home after installing a Stiltz HomeLift.

Christopher Knowles, 70, from Cambridge, suffers from Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM) – a slowly progressive muscle-wasting disease that mostly affects the arms and legs.
Symptoms of IBM initially include the progressive weakening of the wrist and finger muscles, the front thigh muscles and the muscles that lift the front of the foot. This meant that Mr. Knowles was finding the stairs in his two-bedroomed Victorian terrace home extremely difficult to manage.
