@McCarthyStone SAFETY’S A PRIORITY AT MCCARTHY & STONE – THREE AWARD WINS AT THE BUILDING SAFETY GROUP AWARDS

The UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy & Stone, is celebrating after being awarded three national awards at the Building Safety Group’s (BSG) Health and Safety Awards, including the ‘BSG Innovation Award’.

The awards are a national celebration of Health and Safety in the workplace, recognising individuals and organisations who consistently demonstrate an exceptional commitment to high standards of safety. BSG boasts over 800 companies across 3500 sites.

The leading retirement housebuilder collected awards across many of its regions, including a BSG Site Manager of the Year award for the North of England which went to Craig Wright, a Site Manager in the North West region for his continuous dedication to improvements in safety.

The developer also triumphed in the Regional Member of the Year Award for its North East region, while the coveted Innovation Award was awarded to Site Manager, Steve Delorean, who developed a unique system for securing patio doors at height to prevent falls. Steve beat off strong competition to secure the coveted award, and his device is already in use across multiple McCarthy & Stone sites up and down the country.site-1

Congratulations were also in order for Brendan Sullivan who was nominated for Site Manager of the Year in the Midlands against a huge field of opposition including several hundred Site Managers from across the region, and from all areas of construction.

Commenting on the award wins, Ray Kelly, Health and Safety Operations Director for McCarthy & Stone said: “We are extremely delighted to have won not one, but three prestigious BSG awards. BSG has around 800 members from all parts of the construction industry, so these awards compare us, not just with housebuilders, but with our wider peer-group. To be nominated is, in itself, an achievement, but to win three awards proves we have the very best staff in place across both our regional and site teams, and a continuously improving safety culture where our commitment to maintaining high standards of safety always comes first.

“Steve Delorean in particular demonstrates just what can be achieved when our committed teams come together to work towards one common goal. He has seen an ongoing challenge at site level and came up with a simple but secure invention that gives a high standard of protection against a fall from height risk. This is now used across all our regions, and is a clear example of someone who cares about safety and thinks about the wider issues involved to improve practices every day.

“As the leading provider of purpose-built retirement accommodation we take great pride in the work we do. Health and safety really is one of the fundamental principles of our business and we are committed to investing in training and regular site inspections to ensure we are continually improving. Winning a BSG award is a truly fantastic accolade and no single person could have achieved these awards or award nominations alone – the achievement should, and will be shared by all of us here.”
