Kawneer joins Secured by Design scheme

Glazing systems from Kawneer have been certified to Secured by Design.

Glazing solutions from leading architectural aluminium systems supplier Kawneer have achieved Secured by Design accreditation, the official UK police flagship initiative supporting the principles of designing out crime.

The renowned certification for windows and doors from the manufacturer’s extensive portfolio of products is a tangible demonstration of the company’s continued commitment to on-going testing for safety and security.

Extensive testing of the company’s products to PAS 24:2012 means architects, planners, contractors and client end users can be assured that Kawneer products provide the ultimate resistance to criminal attack.

The Secured by Design scheme was established 26 years ago by the Association of Chief Police Officers to reduce crime through, among other factors, the design and use of quality security products such as doors, windows, roofs and secondary glazing.

More than 400 companies are now licensed to promote their Police Preferred Specification systems, with certification increasingly being listed as a mandatory requirement in tenders, particularly public sector ones.

Secured by Design principles have been proven to reduce crime for new and refurbished homes and commercial premises by up to 75% by combining minimum standards of physical security with natural surveillance and defensible space.
