TAYLOR WIMPEY ADVENTURERS OVERCOME MOUNTAINS IN AID OF YOUTH CHARITY @TaylorWimpey

Teams of dedicated staff from leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey have come together to complete a two-day challenge across the Lake District for charity.

The fourth annual Taylor Wimpey Challenge, which took place on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th May, saw almost 400 challengers, representing the developer’s head office and regional businesses, flock to the mountainous region of Cumbria to compete in one of two special contests.

Money raised from the challenges will go to the Youth Adventure Trust, a charity that helps vulnerable young people gain access to opportunities for personal development through a range of outdoor learning experiences, as well as other charities chosen by the individual regional businesses.

The 63 teams had two events to choose from – The 24 Peaks Challenge had teams attempting to summit 24 of the district’s finest peaks within a 24-hour period, while The Tizzie Wizzie Challenge asked competitors to participate in an It’s a Knockout-style tournament including ZORB Football, Segway racing and monster volleyball and then climb 14 peaks in a target time of 10 hours!

The challenge was Taylor Wimpey’s fourth team-building fundraiser held in partnership with the Youth Adventure Trust, which has seen thousands of pounds donated to the charity over the past few years.

This year, each team was challenged to raise at least £1,500 to be split between the Youth Adventure Trust and a charity of the team’s choice. Following the event, the projected fundraising total stands at a fantastic £148,000.

Pete Redfern, Chief Executive of Taylor Wimpey, participated in the 24 Peaks Challenge with his ‘24 No More’ teammates, and says: “In last year’s challenge, our teams accomplished the incredible feat of climbing three of the UK’s highest mountains, and in true Taylor Wimpey fashion, we decided to up the ante for 2017. “This was unquestionably the toughest Taylor Wimpey Challenge we’ve faced so far – so everyone who took part should feel a great sense of pride in what they’ve achieved.

“It’s always fantastic to see so many colleagues getting into the spirit of this event and having fun, all while raising much-needed funds for a range of really worthy causes.”

Mark Davey, Chief Executive of the Youth Adventure Trust, says: “Year on year the teams from Taylor Wimpey rise to the challenge we set them. We have seen some fantastic examples of team work, determination and good humour in very demanding circumstances.

“2017 is a special year for the charity as we are celebrating our 25th anniversary. In that time we have changed the lives of 3,800 vulnerable young people through outdoor adventure. That is in no small part thanks to the ongoing support of Taylor Wimpey and all of the people who take part in their annual challenge. Thank you!”

For 25 years the Youth Adventure Trust has given over 3,800 vulnerable 11 to 14-year-olds the hope, confidence and skills to face the challenges in their daily lives: challenges such as bullying, self esteem issues, chaotic home lives, being on the brink of exclusion from school, having no positive role models, living in poverty or rural isolation.

The charity uses outdoor adventure to inspire these young people over three school years, helping them discover their true potential and exceed their expectations.

Its life changing programme is free to the young person, but each place costs £3,300 – so the money raised through the Taylor Wimpey Challenge will help to change the lives of many young people.
