Mental Health is an issue we can’t afford to ignore. So many people find it difficult to talk about their problems and choose to battle them alone. As one of the UK’s biggest employers, we want to help to change that.

Together with mental health campaign Time to Change, we’ve launched an initiative encouraging men to open-up and talk about their problems. Helping change the conversation around mental health for the better.

THE ELEPHANT IN THE TRANSIT.

According to research, having a chat facing the same way as someone makes people more honest and open to discussing their feelings. Considering over a million journeys are made in Ford Transits daily, this led us to that idea that Ford can provide a space for countless men to talk about mental health, every day.

Our ‘Elephant in the Transit’ campaign, which tackles the sometimes awkward subject of mental health head on, launched nationwide on TV early in 2018 and was promoted in Social Media and supported by key PR initiatives.

For our 13,000+ employees in the UK, we’ve also signed the Time to Change Employer Pledge. An act that shows our commitment to ensure our employees will receive the support and training they need, so that no-one in the workplace has to face a mental health problem alone.

HOW TO HELP.

Ford and Time to Change have also come together to create five ‘top tips’ as a starting point to help people across Britain to open up a conversation:

• Text/Call Reach out – start small
• Find a good time and place
• Go for a coffee
• Ask how they are – listen without judging
• Treat them the same

JOIN THE CONVERSATION.

Together with Time to Change, we’re committed to helping more men open-up about their mental health. If you have a friend, family member or colleague you are worried about, or would just like to find out more, you can get advice from Time to Change at https://www.time-to-change.org.uk/
