Surface Design Show – Stand LS428 – Artistic Licence launches sunDial, a trailing edge mains LED dimmer

 Lighting controls specialist, Artistic Licence, is excited to be launching its much anticipated trailing edge mains dimmer, sunDial. The solution that many lighting professionals have been waiting for, sunDial achieves beautiful dimming for all common fixtures, including LED bulbs.

The use of LEDs is now commonplace in both task and feature lighting, not least because of recent EU legislation phasing out traditional incandescent bulbs. LED replacement bulbs are particularly convenient, as they are mains-powered and can serve as direct replacements for obsolete luminaires. Unfortunately, however, many are not compatible with conventional dimmers, requiring instead a ‘trailing edge’ approach.

While the consumer market has a limited range of trailing-edge offerings, such products do not provide the high levels of performance, reliability and safety demanded by the professional lighting specifier.

sunDial has been intelligently designed and tested against the most stringent criteria. The product is controlled by DMX (with support for RDM) and provides 4 output channels, each rated at 250 W. If more power is needed, 2 channels can be bridged to give 500 W.

The product can dim any type of dimmable LED replacement bulb, along with CFL and incandescent sources. Four user-selectable dimming curves are offered, ensuring optimum results for all types of fixture. Performance is exceptional for LED COB bulbs, with smooth dimming down to 0%.

sunDial quad is extremely resilient, with smart features that reduce ongoing maintenance needs. Active de-rating is triggered if the product senses that it is approaching its maximum operating temperature. When the internal temperature sensors detect that it has cooled sufficiently, full operation is resumed.

Other premium features include ‘self-healing’ outputs that have the ability to recover autonomously following a fault situation. This may be an over-current, short-circuit or over-temperature condition that causes the outputs to temporarily shut down for safety. When the fault has passed, normal operation resumes automatically without the need for user intervention.
