FPS to Establish Sustainability Working Group @FPS_Piling

The Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) is setting up a new Sustainability Working Group designed to look at how the piling sector, as an important sub-contractor of the wider construction industry, can move towards Net Zero Carbon production by 2050.

The Working Group, which is looking to recruit volunteers from all FPS member companies, will examine all aspects of sustainability and the environment from water use reduction through to the establishment of carbon reduction targets and carbon emission benchmarks.

The Group will also seek to build these objectives into the FPS Sustainability Charter, as well as establishing and sharing best practice.

Speaking about the new Working Group Steve Hadley, Chair of the FPS said: “The UK construction sector is responsible for roughly 40% of carbon emissions, the geotechnical sector accounting for some 13% of this and it is important we as a trade organisation do what we can, through the support of our members, to reduce this figure.

“Our members have already expressed their commitment to sustainability and the Working Group will capitalise on this enthusiasm. Their contribution and expertise will be invaluable if the sector is going to reach that 2050 target of net zero emissions.”

The Group will look to meet monthly with progress published regularly.
