Redbacks Cushioning Limited, manufacturers of the award winning, non-foam based, Redbacks kneepads is one of the co-sponsors of the ‘Building Britain’s Future’ project which was launched at Westminster on Speakers Green in front of the Houses of Parliament on 3rd May.
The event, which was organised by The National Construction Academy, an organisation set up by Derby construction boss Ian Hodgkinson, highlighted the need to encourage and incentivise apprentices to take up brick laying which, with the constant need for more housing, can offer excellent career prospects and earning potential.
Commented on his company’s involvement in contributing kneepads for all the brick layers at the event, Cliff Lockyer, C.E.O. of Redbacks Cushioning Limited, said: “We are delighted to be associated with the ‘Building Britain’s Future’ project and The National Construction Academy which we believe offers apprentices a valuable introduction to the construction industry and in particular the importance of professional brick laying. With a great deal of kneeling involved in this trade it is vital that young people take proper care of their knees right from the start, as unless they do, they will soon face long term pain and discomfort which can lead to injury and loss of earnings in later life”.
There are currently over 104,000 annually registered knee replacement operations in the UK 50% of which are accredited to occupational hazards; within the next 10 years the total figure will therefore exceed over a million people in the UK, many of whom may have damaged knees through inadequate protection whilst kneeling.
Redbacks kneepads feature a soft and flexible TPE (Thermo Plastic Elastomer) leaf-spring set within a unique honeycomb matrix. This unique ‘Redbacks Cushioning Technology’ distributes body weight evenly, elevating the knees to relieve back pain and reduce pressure on knee, leg, ankle and foot joints, whilst minimising the risk of possible injury from sharp or penetrating objects.
