The brief for the garden in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk was to extend the existing patio to provide a larger entertainment space and add a pathway between the patio and the shed. The clients were concerned about the slope on the garden and requested advice on how to solve this.

Archley Landscapes Solutions designed and installed the hard landscape and Global Stone supplied the Indian Old Rectory Sandstone paving in York Green.

The garden was landscaped to create three sections: a relaxing dining area, a benched pergola for quiet reflection and a pathway of laid setts, leading to the shed (used as a workshop) and towards the end of the garden.

Pressure treated sleepers were installed to split the first phase of the garden, which created an upper level lawn thus solving the issue of the garden sloping.

The dining area was created using the York Green Old Rectory Sandstone. The large pieces of paving suited this space and helps to give the appearance of an even bigger area; perfect for entertaining guests. The wooden dining set complements the blend of colours in the Old Rectory Sandstone.

The second phase of the garden is used as a quiet space, with a small but significant area where the Old Rectory Sandstone in York Green is used. Complete with a bench and bespoke made pergola, this provides a private space and focal point within the scheme. The area creates a miniature garden in its own right.

A serpentine style path runs from the pergola area to a similar styled arch and offers a space to what may become a future project.

The riven and undulating texture of the Old Rectory Sandstone establishes a rustic feel to the garden, accomplishing a timeless landscape. The warm tone of colours throughout the garden complement each other, from the plants to the wooden furniture and workshop shed.

Though new paving was laid for this project, the existing landscape already included Global Stone Old Rectory paving in York Green in place from over 12 years ago. After pressurised cleaning and repointing, the paving looks brand new which shows that, with maintenance and care, the Old Rectory is a timeless paving that adjusts with the times and is always in fashion.
