McCarthy & Stone granted planning consent for £33m Poole development

McCarthy & Stone, the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, has been granted planning permission for a £33m development of 60 properties at Canford Cliffs, overlooking Sandbanks and Poole Harbour in Dorset.

The Retirement Living PLUS development will consist of 25 one-bedroom apartments and 35 two-bedroom apartments, set within tranquil landscaped gardens. The development will also provide several shared facilities such as a homeowners’ lounge, restaurant, function room and mobility scooter store.

McCarthy & Stone homeowners will also benefit from an on-site Estate Management team that looks after the day-to-day running of the development, maintenance of the buildings and gardens. The team will provide on-site domestic and personalised care and support services for homeowners, tailored to their needs, provided in-house and available on site 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The apartments are located in Canford Cliffs, a picturesque suburb of Poole in Dorset. It lies on the English Channel Coast midway between Poole and Bournemouth. Canford Cliffs village is within short walking distance from the site and offers a range of restaurants and local shops, all while being just a stone’s throw from the beach. The design makes for a development that will be sustainable and environmentally friendly while remaining in keeping with buildings in the local area.

Shane Paull, McCarthy & Stone’s Divisional Manager Director for its Southern division, commented:

“We’re delighted to announce that our Retirement Living PLUS development at Canford Cliffs has been granted planning permission. Poole is such a special location for anyone wishing to feel the joys of the English seaside or clifftop walks and we are thrilled that the homeowners of our 60 new high-quality dwellings will be able to experience this.

“Given the vast undersupply of suitable housing for older people, our development at Canford Cliffs will be welcome news for the significant number of people choosing to downsize to a home that is easier to maintain, while still ensuring their independence. The access to tailored domestic care packages and communal entertainment and dining spaces, all set within a landscaped development, will ensure our customers enjoy autonomy and support in equal measure.”

Construction is set to begin in late 2021.
