GDG Set to Work on Zawtika Project

GDG Set to Work on Zawtika Project

Specialist geotechnical engineering consultancy, Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions (GDG), has secured an important new contract to work on the Zawtika Development Project Phase 1D, an offshore gas field in the Gulf of Moattama.

The project includes the development of the Zawtika, Kakonna and Gawthaka fields, located in blocks M9 and M11 of the Gulf of Martaban, offshore of Myanmar, and is spread across an area of 11,746 square kilometres.

The Zawtika Development Project Phase 1D started with the delivery of natural gas for domestic purpose in Myanmar and eventually expanded to include the exporting of natural gas to Thailand. Myanmar is estimated to contain billions of barrels of oil and trillions of cubic feet of natural gas reserves.

GDG has previously been involved in pile installation analysis for this project, and the work developing pile driveability and fatigue analysis, and pile installation records, has provided GDG with a useful appreciation of the ground conditions at the site.

This leaves GDG ideally placed for its current tasks, which include development of both soil parameters to be used in Plaxis 3D, and the 3D model geometry. Additionally, GDG will assess resultant soil bearing pressure and settlement for mud mat under relevant design load cases (i.e., self-weight, wave and current loading etc.) as well as assessing stability of the mud mat on-bottom stability. Ultimately, the 3D modelling and assessments will inform the recommendations regarding suitability of the mud mat design, based on geotechnical considerations.
