Bauer Technologies Ltd, a subsidiary of the BAUER Group, has been awarded a contract to work on an important improvement project for Section 5&6 of the A465 that runs between Dowlais Top and Hirwaun. The project is being delivered by Future Valleys Construction, on behalf of the Welsh Government. This is a multi-phased road network upgrade that will transform the existing highway from single lane to a dual lane carriageway along this eleven mile (17.7km) stretch. When completed the new dual carriageway will improve traffic flow and journey safety. It will also improve access to key services and employment, whilst encouraging investment across the Heads of the Valleys.
The completed road will improve traffic flow and make it safer to overtake, especially around junctions and areas with poor visibility. It will also improve access to key services, jobs and markets – supporting inward investment to areas like the Ebbw Vale Enterprise Zone.
Bauer Technologies’ scope of works is split over three phases, commencing October 2021 and ending October 2024, and includes contiguous wall piles ranging from 880mm to 1500mm, with additional bearing piles of a similar diameter. All piles will require an element of rock drilling within the Carboniferous Millstone series located beneath the site, adding complexity to the project.
Speaking about the project award, Michael Jones, Managing Director, Bauer Technologies, said “Bauer Technologies is proud to be working on this prestigious project, which is both challenging and complex; however, our multi-disciplinary team is experienced in all the required specialisms and more than capable of completing this project on time and to budget.
