Security threats to construction sites include the loss of valuable machinery, workers possessions and even loss of life should trespassers disrupt areas of wiring or hazardous materials. Efficient security measures need to be considered in any construction site risk assessment.
Clearway has delivered effective and robust construction site security solutions for a number of sites in the UK ensuring workers and equipment are protected. Read more about our construction site CCTV and other security applications for the construction industry below.
Building Site Security
According to UK police forces, tool thefts from construction sites costs contractors around £95 million per year.
In October 2018, the Federation of Master Builders reported that tool theft was at an all-time high, with Police in Dorset reporting more than 400 tool theft offences in 2019 alone.
FMB CEO, Brian Berry, said: “More than half of builders in the UK have fallen foul of tool theft with concerns growing over a crime wave continuing to wreak havoc across the construction industry. Tools are being stolen from vans and direct from construction sites, with some builders even being assaulted by would-be thieves…”
Tool loss, or the loss of any construction equipment, will incur a significant financial loss as well as the disruption cause and loss of time when completing construction projects. This highlights the need for effective construction site security.
Temporary CCTV Tower (solar or mains)
Our purpose-built CCTV towers can be installed and configured quickly once on-site, providing instant visual security for large open spaces. The CCTV camera is mounted at the top of a 6m telescopic mast, instantly providing near 360-degree coverage, ensuring your site is monitored from all angles.
Our rapid deployment CCTV towers include two large solar panels that recharge a set of high-capacity batteries. Together, they will keep the CCTV tower running 24/7, independently of mains power. Our CCTV towers will also run from 240v mains power should it be available. Requiring very little maintenance, this robust and responsive construction site security solution can be set up within minutes and removed quickly as and when needed.

CCTV monitoring
Our fixed or temporary CCTV systems are set, by default, to record 24/7 and can be viewed via a mobile device or PC from any location.
Multiple passive infrared sensors can be installed to provide trigger points, such as entrances and exits to a site, where a PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) camera can point and focus on in the event of an activation. These events can be monitored by our NSI Gold Cat ll Alarm Receiving Centre, allowing for round-the-clock surveillance and collection of video footage for evidence, if required.
Additionally, our ARC can monitor intruder and fire alarm activations, video-verified alarm systems and other construction site security systems, to provide a quick reaction and response to breaches in security.

Video Verified Alarms
Whilst regular alarm systems can monitor movement or changes within a specific area, via a variety of sensor types, there is typically no indication as to what caused an alarm to be triggered, only the activation itself.
Our video-verified alarm system takes the alarm activation process one step further by using a built-in camera to capture a ten-second clip of the cause of the activation and sent it directly to the end-user or our monitoring station. The appropriate action can then be taken depending on the perceived level of the threat.
Video-verified alarms are a particularly efficient way of monitoring a construction site as both false and genuine alarm activations can be identified immediately, before any response team is deployed, especially for vacant construction sites or areas with low movement expected.
Battery life for all devices, including the control panel, is up to 4 years.
Concrete Barrier Blocks
Construction sites can typically occupy large, open areas of land with multiple access points, and these can be difficult to protect from unwanted intruders and fly-tippers in particular.
To bolster your construction site security, concrete barrier blocks are an ideal and flexible solution that enable large perimeters to be fully protected with a contiguous, physical barrier, or simply protect a small access point, such as between trees on the edge of roads.
The concrete barriers can be used to restrict vehicle access, preventing thieves who may use vehicles to transport stolen goods.
Fly-tipping is also a major issue on open land or unoccupied land, such when a site is in the early stages of development, should your construction site be left unattended for longer periods of time.
