Galostar Brickwork Ltd has become the first major brickwork subcontractor in the UK to remove wooden spot boards as part of its wider commitment to addressing the environmental consequences of the construction sector. The leading business will be replacing all wooden spot boards with the Patent Office Official Registered Design Protected 100% recyclable mortar boards made from recycled aluminium, a sustainable swap that has been designed and manufactured in the UK by Grayson – a trusted industry supplier for construction consumables.
Every year, 85,000 bricklayers across the UK send thousands of tonnes of contaminated waste to landfill with much of this waste being mortar impregnated chipboard. By making the switch to the innovative aluminium recycled and recyclable boards, as well as the matching mortar board stands that negate using bricks, blocks or milk crates, Galostar Brickwork Ltd will be playing a huge role in reducing this waste, instantly stopping tonnes of this contaminated waste going to landfill.
Galostar Brickwork Ltd is widely acknowledged as one of the top 10 largest brickwork subcontractors in the UK with its incredibly high-quality control standards and adoption of new technologies and methodologies playing an integral part in this success. The business is committed to taking steps to reduce its carbon footprint, as well as its clients, and addressing the environmental consequences of the sector. This bold move for the business is the latest step in embracing environmental advances to have a positive impact on the environment.
Joel Riley, Contracts Manager at Galostar Brickwork Ltd, says: “We are excited to announce the removal of single use wooden spot boards from our sites across the UK as we directly address the significant environmental impact of these products. Whilst this is a bold, and costly, move for Galostar Brickwork Ltd, it is one that as a top-tier subcontractor, we are proud to be leading the industry on.
Reducing the industry’s negative environmental impact is something that the team at Galostar Brickwork Ltd as well as many of our blue-chip clients feel passionately about and we are proud to be taking this next step towards positive change.”
Tony Higson, Managing Director at Grayson, adds: “At Grayson, we are passionate about providing products for the construction industry that not only aid the delivery of products but also have a positive impact on the world around us. We are delighted that our long term client, Galostar Brickwork Ltd, has embraced the innovative recyclable mortar boards and is being a part of the change that we hope the rest of the industry will soon adopt too.”
