Colwyn Bay’s Port Eirias Watersports Centre has attracted its share of criticism as the building, designed by K2 Architects, is a focal point of the North Wales coastal town’s regeneration. A key element of the specification was a requirement for insulation beneath the floor and perimeter to have high compressive strength. The performance set was 900kN/m2 and this resulted in FOAMGLAS cellular glass insulation being chosen in preference to phenolic foam. FOAMGLAS also gives off no toxic emissions in the presence of heat and is totally impervious.
