DEANESTOR ANNOUNCES RECORD ORDERS AND STRONG FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE THIS YEAR

Deanestor, one of the UK’s leading contract furniture and fit-out specialists, has announced a record order book and strong financial performance this year.

FLAGSHIP ART & DESIGN BUILDING SCOOPS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD @cpmgArchitects

THE team behind the transformational Vijay Patel Building at De Montfort University, which inspires some of the UK’s most talented art and design graduates, have scooped a prestigious award.

Nottingham and London-based CPMG Architects were the appointed architects on the project which was awarded the Large Non-Residential Scheme of the Year at the ProCon Awards in Leicester.

The complex project created one building for all art & design subjects by completely refurbishing a 1960’s tower block and constructing a new build wing. The project created spaces to encourage artistic collaboration between students including studios, workshops and break-out spaces.

NM Group is set to introduce a virtual collaboration space, as part of its next phase of BIM development in their journey towards full lifecycle asset data management and big data.

The engineering and construction company has invested in cloud-based Viewpoint for Projects to give its project teams and clients instant, secure access to a complete, up-to-date picture of every contract.

Gary Ross, Head of BIM at NM Group, said: “This substantial investment in project collaboration technology will significantly enhance our company-wide BIM capability. Covers employee completes Great South Run in memory of friend @coverstimber

Kevin Kelsey, who works at Covers Timber & Builders Merchants’ Chichester depot, completed the Great South Run in Southsea on Sunday 22nd October and raised £195 for Brain Tumour Research.

The event saw Kevin run 10 miles through Old Portsmouth, the Historic Dockyard and past the Royal Navy’s current naval ships, before finishing back at the starting point of Clarence Esplanade.

McLaren Packaging invests £3 million in construction of luxury packaging facility in Stirling @McLPackaging

Port Glasgow-based premium drinks industry supplier McLaren Packaging has invested £3 million in the construction of a new facility in Stirling for subsidiary Blue Box Design, the specialist designer and manufacturer of bespoke presentation boxes for the UK food, drink and luxury sectors.

Works started earlier this month at the new 20,000 sq ft manufacturing, design and testing centre on a greenfield site at Broadleys Business Park and is scheduled for completion in April 2018.

The investment, which has received Regional Selective Assistance through Scottish Enterprise, will create an additional 18 jobs over a four-year period, comprising a combination of shop floor operators and office-based staff. The site and building have been ‘future-proofed’ to enable the subsequent extension into two additional modules; doubling, then tripling the initial floorspace.

Covers supports homeless bus refurb @coverstimber

The Portsmouth depot of Covers Timber & Builders Merchant was delighted to donate supplies to Highbury College students to help them build bunks for The Rucksack Project’s bus renovation.

The Stagecoach bus is being transformed into a homeless shelter and will offer kitchen and toilet facilities on the ground floor and 12 beds on the upper deck. Once complete, the refurbished bus will be showcased to the public on Sunday 26th November between 12pm and 2pm at Fratton Park. It will then be donated to Portsmouth charity, St Agatha’s which supports the city’s homeless.

National contractor GRAHAM Construction has been named Major Contractor of the Year at the annual Building Awards, surpassing some of the industry’s biggest names to win one of the evening’s most prestigious prizes.

New survey reveals the difficulty industry workers face when simply replacing their boots

New research commissioned by Dr. Martens, in collaboration with On The Tools, has revealed the stress that UK trade workers face when breaking in new work boots; a fundamental piece of kit for the industrial workforce. According to the study, 63% claim it can take up to one week for work boots to be properly broken in and ready to use, resulting in extremely painful and potentially dangerous consequences.

Worryingly, the research also discovered long breaking in periods impacted how often workers replaced their boots, with over 40% admitting they were put off from buying new boots due to the initial discomfort.
