Blue Planet, a Brussels based consultancy and training company, has signed a two year agreement to become the first approved international centre of the BRE Academy. It plans to roll out BREEAM and other sustainability related courses in response to increasing market demand in the country which is home to the European Union and Commission.
Using world respected experts to deliver their courses, supported by advanced IT systems for fast effective learning delivery, Blue Planet currently specialises in high quality training courses related to energy performance certification of buildings, carbon accounting and BREEAM. Under the terms of the agreement this will extend out to include other BRE Academy training products including BREEAM Refurbishment and Fit Out and BREEAM In -Use for existing stock. Longer term, Building Information Modelling (BIM) training will also be delivered as Belgium gets to grips with digital construction.
Blue Planet currently has a 60% share of the Brussels market where there is increasing demand for high quality, internationally acknowledged sustainability standards for residential and commercial buildings. This reflects the requirements of the EU’s Performance of Buildings Directive, pan European legislation aimed at driving down carbon emissions and improving the energy efficiency of Europe’s built assets.
Director of the BRE Academy Pauline Traetto said ‘We are very pleased to have our first international centre delivering our courses. There is already a strong synergy between the BRE Academy and Blue Planet which is critical to the success of this collaboration. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership.’
Frank Delattin, CEO of Blue Planet said ‘Belgium is making a significant effort to reduce the carbon footprint of its existing and new buildings and infrastructure. It is challenging because we don’t have much sun, we don’t have hydro and we have limited space to catch whatever wind runs through the land, so instead we’re focusing on construction and renovation, minimising the energy and heating needs of new stock and retrofitting existing assets to optimise performance. Several high profile companies have demanded BREEAM Outstanding ratings for their headquarters to show their commitment to sustainability. Our collaboration with the BRE Academy will help us deliver an extended portfolio of high quality training with already proven results and an internationally respected brand – we are very pleased to grow our business in this way’.
