Eight Speedy employees are celebrating after successfully completing the London Marathon and raising over £5,000 for WellChild.
After months of fundraising and intensive training for the iconic 26-mile race, ‘Team Speedy’ crossed the finish line on Sunday 26th April 2015 aching, blistered but exhilarated.
The Newton-Le-Willows company also sponsored WellChild’s 140 team of runners, which will help the children’s charity achieve an expected grand total of £260,000.
Keen runner Lee Marston, Head of Project Management Office at Speedy, completed the marathon in an impressive three hours and seven seconds and is already gearing up for his next challenge.
He said: “If I had been eight seconds faster I would have been under the three hour mark and I am kicking myself! I can’t wait to sign up to the next marathon so I can raise even more money for WellChild and smash my personal best.”
This was the first marathon for couple Chris Henderson, a Customer Service Executive and Christy Littler, a Compliance Service Coordinator at Speedy, who trained and ran together throughout the race.
Christy said: “We were so excited when we received the phone call to say we had both secured a place and would be representing Speedy in the London Marathon. At times the route was very challenging, but the whole experience has been hugely rewarding.”
Long-serving employee, Wendy Bates, Speedy’s Innovation and Client Experience Director, who has been with the company for 26 years enjoyed running the race.
“This is my 16th marathon and was one of my favourite races because it was a true team effort to raise vital funds for such a deserving charity. We look forward to working with WellChild over the coming year and will continue to raise as much money as possible.”
Steve Williams, WellChild Challenge Event Manager, said: “This is our second year in partnership with Speedy and we are extremely grateful for all of the team’s hard work and their ongoing fundraising efforts. Team Speedy is wonderful to work with and nothing is ever too much trouble, and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
Over 37,000 runners completed the London Marathon 2015, making it the biggest in the event’s 35-year history.
