QUALITY house developer Story Homes has been given approval to build up to 120 homes in Wynyard, County Durham as part of a wider 240 unit scheme.
Work on the new development, which will include four and five bedroom properties, will begin in Summer 2015.
The approval is subject to significant infrastructure investments in the area, with costs shared by Story Homes and Bett Homes.
Significant off-site contributions of over £1.3m will be made towards delivery of new affordable housing to meet local needs in the area.
A payment of over £330,000 will be made towards improvements at A689 junctions 3, 4 and 5 and £200,000 towards the delivery of a new pedestrian bridge crossing over the A689. A new bus service linking the site to Billingham shall also be provided.
Contributions towards primary and secondary education places in the locale shall also be made. A ‘kick around’ area will also be provided adjacent to the site.
The development will bring a host of economic benefits to the region through Story Homes’ use of local subcontractors and suppliers.
Steve Errington Chief Executive of Story Homes said: “We’re delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted for Story Homes’ Wynyard development.
“Story Homes is committed to using local subcontractors and suppliers wherever possible which will bring significant economic benefits to the region.
“Wynard is a perfect match for Story Homes’ commitment to delivering high quality homes in the places in which people want to live.”
Story Homes will create a network of green corridors integrated within the landscape to link new areas of open space and create areas of enhanced wildlife habitat value.
A travel plan is also set to be implemented in order to encourage future residents to use sustainable forms of transport.
