A leading firm has provided its specialist hot dip galvanizing service to a project which has seen the successful reactivation of a disused carbon plant in the West Midlands.
Manchester Galvanizing – part of Wedge Group Galvanizing – partnered with the project’s official steelwork contractor, Aspull Engineering, to galvanize over 46 tonnes of structural steelwork at the Tipton site following a multi-million pound renovation of the facility.
The project saw the carbon plant’s existing furnace extended with new steelwork columns installed to heighten the building’s structure, as well as the production of internal steel platforms, access stairways, a replacement roof, and an external loading section. The work will bring the plant back into operation with both the capacity and efficiency of the reactivation of the carbon increased – the process of which results in spent carbon returned to a high reusable quality.
Steve Slone, Project Engineer at Aspull Engineering, commented: “Galvanizing of the internal steelworks was chosen for this specific project due to its inherent ability to provide long-term protection with no ongoing maintenance required. Due to the nature of the project there were occasions when we needed a very quick turnaround and the team at Manchester Galvanizing achieved this every time.”
Mark Waters, Commercial Manager at Manchester Galvanizing, said: “We’ve worked with Aspull Engineering for many years now on a variety of exciting projects, with this one no exception. We were delighted to be involved, and look forward to partnering with the team on many more projects to come.”
