Recticel Insulation’s technical services manager presented a CPD at the RCI Show.
Leading PIR manufacturer Recticel Insulation took centre stage at the recent RCI Show’s seminar programme with a RIBA-approved CPD advising on how to design and specify with confidence to help reduce the performance gap.
Delivered by the company’s technical services manager Paul Forrester at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, the CPD explained the fundamentals of heat transfer, insulation, U-value calculations and condensation risk and their relationship to typical construction.
Paul gave an overview of heat transfer and insulation performance and talked about the thermal performance of materials and calculation of R-values and U-values. He also explained how and why condensation occurs and advised on the placement of vapour control layers and breather membranes to achieve best performance.
The section of the presentation relating to membership of the BBA Competency Scheme for U-value calculations was warmly welcomed by the organisation. Chief executive Claire Curtis-Thomas, among others, met Recticel’s technical department later that same day to discuss promotion of the scheme and innovation in construction.
Paul said: “The presentation was well attended by show visitors and exhibitors alike, and this justifies the rationale behind choosing the topic for RIBA-approved CPD material. Understanding the fundamentals of building fabric performance is useful for everyone involved in construction and we’re glad to have been offering this presentation to the industry for nearly two years now.”
