Selwood lends helping hand to fire-hit sports club @selwoodgroup

Leading plant specialist Selwood has helped a community drive to rebuild a sports club that was destroyed by fire.

Staff from Selwood’s Bristol branch decided to help after hearing about the plight of Kingsweston Sports and Social Club, which was burned to the ground by arsonists eight years ago.

The blaze eight years ago had left both Lawrence Weston Football Club and Sea Mills Football Club – plus five youth teams – without a home and teams were having to use a temporary club house and changing rooms.

Earlier this year volunteers for the club, in Napier Miles Road, Bristol, launched a community appeal asking local businesses to help finish off a £350,000 rebuild of the facility.
Selwood, with a branch in Burcott Road, was able to supply a Ride On Roller for compacting stone prior to the tarmacking of the car park at the newly-built club.

Mark Hicks, Bristol area manager for Selwood plant hire, said: “I was made aware of the community appeal by a mutual friend who plays for one of the teams there.
“As soon as I found out what they required, I set about organising the supply of the Ride On Roller from our Bristol branch.

“Had we known of their unfortunate situation sooner we could have supplied more equipment, but it is great to know that we have helped to make a small difference to this community effort.
“We wish the club and all its members all the success for the future in their new home.”

Selwood has an extensive fleet of plant available for hire or sale from its network of regional branches across England and Wales. Its teams pride themselves on an unrivalled depth of technical expertise, exceptional customer service and product knowledge.
