Education Basic Needs programme will deliver new build and refurbished learning facilities across the city
ISG has secured a £25 million programme of works with Manchester City Council to deliver new and refurbished primary school facilities across the city.
Awarded through the North West Construction Hub Medium Value Framework in 2016, the appointment has already seen ISG deliver two schools in the first phase, with a further seven schools in the second phase.
Work is already complete on the first two projects, ahead of the new academic year in September. The first is a £3 million new build Early Years Foundation Stage facility at St Margaret’s C of E Primary School on Withington Road. The project included reconfiguration works to the existing building and additional external elements.
The second scheme was a £2 million refurbishment of an existing building and the construction of a new dining room extension at St Matthew’s RC High School on Nuthurst Road in Moston.
Using BIM Level 2 methodology, these projects saw ISG partner with Premier Modular to deliver the off-site manufactured new build elements, which are designed to be low carbon and achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’, in line with the council’s drive to provide more efficient and environmentally sustainable facilities.
To ensure consistency across the £25 million programme, ISG has assembled a single team, comprising architect Lovelock Mitchell, structural engineers Scott Hughes, and mechanical and electrical engineers BCM Consulting.

Seven other projects are included in this programme of work, including a refurbishment of Plymouth Grove PRU School and a supplementary school site in Didsbury for Beaver Road School.
