Two North West organisations are celebrating success after their recent partnership helped to bring the vision of children to life for the popular CBBC children’s programme, The Dengineers.

Warrington-based Total Steelwork was invited by the programme’s producers to provide its fabrication services as part of a project for Claire House Children’s Hospice, a charity which helps seriously and life-limited children live life to the full, and provides support to their families.

With a wheelchair-friendly zip line specified for the build, the team at Total Steelwork asked long-standing suppliers, Manchester Galvanizing Ltd, to provide its services to ensure the steelwork used to fabricate the structure of the zip line could survive the elements without maintenance, and remain corrosion-free in the years to come.

The Dengineers produces one big build per series, with Claire House Children’s Hospice the focus of the one-hour special which follows the engineering team as they build an awe-inspiring den influenced by the children’s needs, interests and hobbies.

Mike at Total Steelwork & Fabrications explained: “We absolutely jumped at the chance to be involved and enhance the facilities and experiences for children at Claire House Children’s Hospice. We wanted to make sure that the steel we used for the zip line would last, which is why we asked Manchester Galvanizing Ltd to work with us on the project. Without hesitation, they said yes, and we are all so pleased with the finished result.”

Jennifer Morrison, Series Producer of the BBC’s The Dengineers, explained: “The whole build went brilliantly, and the children and their families were thrilled with the result. I want to say a huge thanks to both Total Steelwork and Manchester Galvanizing Ltd, as well as the wider business community’s involvement, for helping make this amazing project a success.”

Once the filming had finished, Claire House Children’s Hospice held a party to reveal the finished product to the families and staff of the hospice, and invited all contractors to view the episode early, before being aired on 2nd December 2017 (CBBC Channel, 11:00am). Children were treated as VIPs with a film star night, police escort to the venue, a red carpet, and dedicated VIP areas for the children and their families.

Mark Waters, Commercial Manager at Manchester Galvanizing Ltd, added: “We’ve worked with Total Steelwork on many large-scale projects over the years and it was an honour to work together on this special project. Manchester Galvanizing Ltd were proud to attend the preview of the show and witness what this build means to the children and the families of Claire House Children’s Hospice”.
