ACO to display intelligent stormwater management portfolio at Flood Expo 2018

Stand: 4F45
NEC, Birmingham: 12-13 September 2018

ACO Water Management is set to showcase its state of the art cloud-based hydraulic drainage design software, as well as a number of products from its comprehensive flood mitigation portfolio, during its debut appearance at Flood Expo 2018.

ACO QuAD Hydraulic Design software is the fourth generation of ACO’s design software, and is accessible on ACO’s website. Users first select the application (Domestic, Pedestrian, Highways, Industrial, or Mixed-Use) which best describes their project, and then input the size of the drained area. The software automatically calculates a variety of different hydraulic project data. Unlike competitor models, ACO QuAD can accommodate complex and sloped surface areas – not just rectangular shapes – to provide a much more accurate representation of the real world project.

QuAD integrates Google Maps, meaning users can input their site’s exact location and automatically receive the rainfall intensity for that area. When coupled with the ability to specify the run-off coefficient, based on the permeability of the chosen surface (of which a number can be selected, ranging from grass to asphalt) and surface storage calculation options, designers will be able to create a highly accurate hydraulic drainage design in a matter of minutes.

Visitors on stand can also be shown additional functions including: dynamic point in-flows, calculating channel resilience and anticipated maintenance schedules, as well as optional attenuation tank volumes and the potential for surface storage, where applicable.

The ACO stand will also feature a selection of ACO’s specialist stormwater management systems, including its high-capacity patented plastic geocellular StormBrixx system. Comprising of injection-moulded stackable and brick-bondable units and various access and inspection options, the StormBrixx system is the perfect solution for stormwater attenuation and infiltration requirements. It is available in a variety of different configurations to suit a host of different applications, from business parks to schools.

Also on display will be ACO’s Qmax high-capacity, high strength slot drainage system. Available in six sizes, it provides greater flexibility for engineers and designers to optimise hydraulic schemes and help minimise the number of drainage runs required in a project. The larger Qmax channels can also be used to allow effective attenuation in order to reduce stormwater carry over.

Another stand-out solution for visitors will be ACOs Q-Brake Vortex, a horizontal vortex flow control designed to prevent downstream flooding by controlling the release of stormwater before it discharges into the watercourse or sewer. Designed to regulate stormwater flows from 2 -100 litres per second, ACO Q-Brake Vortex is tailored to the specific performance requirements of the application providing optimum efficiency within the drainage system.

ACO Q-Brake Vortex has also been integrated into the Flow drainage design and analysis programme from third-party built environment software specialists, Causeway Technologies; which visitors will also be able to see for themselves on the ACO stand. This software provides design engineers with the ability to fine-tune their designs based on key priorities including a reduction in construction cost, maximising drainage-lifecycle, as well as allowing designers to deliver compliant designs based on UK regulatory requirements.

David Smoker, Business Development Director at ACO Water Management, comments: “Flooding is now a year-round phenomenon for the UK, and the construction industry must take an ‘always on’ approach to preventing and mitigating the potentially devastating effects of flash flooding. Incorporating contingency storage and attenuation systems into the original drainage design is key to this, and both the ACO QuAD and Causeway Flow software programs, coupled with our broad portfolio of storm and surface water management products, give engineers the valuable tools to accurately calculate the recommended hydraulic capacity and effectively mitigate flood risks for each project.

“Flood Expo is undoubtedly the premier UK platform to discuss flood mitigation and resilience strategies, and we are very much looking forward to engaging in the debate, and welcoming visitors to our stand to share our experience and knowledge in this rapidly evolving field.”

Netsanet Mebrate, Product Owner, Causeway Technologies, adds: “The automation of the ACO Q-Brake flow control within Flow will provide more options and accelerate the design process of any drainage system requiring vortex-based flow control. We are delighted to be partnering with ACO at this event, given the company’s commitment to tackling the UK’s pressing stormwater issues head on, and Flood Expo will be the perfect opportunity to introduce the combined offering to professionals from across the industry.”
